Without any further ado, we will discuss about all the aspects of this laptop by Asus and will try to figure out if it is a worthy one or now. As soon as you open the laptop, it shifts upwards. The laptop’s dual-screen gives you a premium feel as the secondary screen comes with a hinge. One thing which I must quote at the very beginning is that Asus has worked seriously on elements like screen size, high audio quality, enhanced internal components and whatnot. I got my hands on the laptop for the purpose of reviewing and testing it to the extremes. The laptop offers unmatchable performance along with high-quality speakers and a lot of other stuff. The recently launched Asus ROG Zephyrus Duo 16 is proof of the same. Flash at your own risk.Asus has always been in a dominant position when it comes to producing gaming-focused laptops. Manual mode to me, is only used for benchmarks and stress tests. Moreover, I don’t care about 1~3 more fps in AAA games, and I don’t stamp the hardware monitor onto the screen to distract myself from gaming. If I need the extra performance than 130W, I simply use Turbo mode. I prefer the original 130W limit (115+15) to keep the system relatively quite but still relatively powerful. The 3080Ti can be pushed to 170 W, which makes the fans too loud. I flashed back to the original 165W vbios after several days, since this vbios pulles too much power to GPU under the balanced mode. However, If your unit is miniLED variant and you like high brightness, the 280 W AC adaptor has a small possibility that it’s not power enough and the system needs to pull power from the battery. The 280W AC adaptor is enough for my use. I only set my screen to 60~120 nits, which is enough for me in my room. After tests:ġ75W vbios is stable on my unit, with either stress tests, daily use or AAA games. I have never found a similar sized laptop (DUO 15 SE, no S17 2021, no), which can reach this combined wattage (220W) but still keeps the temperature below 90C and 80C at a similar room temperature with a stand and 100% spinning fans. The thermal design of DUO 16 is really good considering the size (the space for fans and radiators is further reduced with the secondary screen design). Since the power per area (Watts/mm^2) of CPU is much higher than that of GPU, which makes it harder to dissipate heat, the system started to limit CPU wattage to keep temperature within 96C, which should be the reason of 215W combined output instead of 220W with the original 165W vbios IMO. The stress test with the original 165 vbios gives the priority to CPU and disabled DB2.0. It seems that the output limit of EC (Embedded Controller) is around a combined 220W of CPU and GPU now. The reason is simple: the recent update of Armour圜rate.ThrottleGearMergeModule (to version: 5.1.12.0, need to be manully updated in the software) allows the system to give more combined power under manual mode. You may find that, even with the original vbios, the manual mode pushes my system to a 215W combined power of CPU and GPU, in contrast to the results (190W) from Ultrabookreview. W/ 165W vbios, CPU stables around 96C/75W, and GPU stables around 76C/140W.Īll tests in manual mode: both fans fixed at 100%, CPU powers to max, GPU clock +160mhz and GPU memory clock +130mhz (didn't push deep), laptop supported by the paper stand in the box, room temperature around 16~18C. W/ 175W vbios, CPU stables around 87C/50W, and GPU stables around 78C/170W. After nvflashing 175W vbios of Strix Scar SE, timespy graphics score resulted in 13940 from 13630 of the original 165W vbios, both with mux switched to discrete card.ġ5 min Stress test by AIDA64 FPU stress only and Furmark:
